Keys are the real currency of Season 14 boss farming, not just damage numbers. You can beat a Lair Boss without spending anything, but the Hoard is where the worthwhile loot sits. That makes every opening a choice. If you are short on keys, or even picking up D4 Gold to keep your runs moving, do not burn materials on a boss whose pool cannot help your build. Start with the Unique that makes your character work, then follow that item to its owner.

Pick the boss that matches your missing item

• Farm Initiate bosses for early build-defining Uniques and Greater Lair Keys
• Use Greater bosses when your target is locked to Duriel, Andariel, Harbinger of Hatred, or Bloodied Butcher
• Run Belial when you want a chosen boss pool and a better reason to chase Mythics
• Save Corrupted Reaper access for Mythic upgrades and Pandemonium Fragments

It sounds obvious, yet plenty of players still chase the hardest available boss because it feels more rewarding. That is often a bad trade. Need Raiment of the Infinite? Varshan can be the sensible stop. Hunting Rod of Kepeleke? Go to Duriel. Want Fractured Winterglass while pushing Nightmare content? Astaroth gives you a reason to stay in Escalating Nightmares. The fastest clear is not always the best farm, either. A clean two-minute kill with no deaths beats a messy high-tier fight that drains potions, time, and patience.

Belial changes the route once your build is mostly online. His Hoard lets you choose a ladder boss pool, so he is useful when you still want a specific Unique but would not mind seeing a Mythic. That is different from the Corrupted Reaper. The Reaper is more about quality than discovery: Mythic-quality drops, fragments, and improving a slot you already understand. Do not treat the Reaper as a magic answer for every missing item. If your build lacks three regular Uniques, ordinary dedicated bosses usually give you better value per key.

There is also no shame in staying at a lower Torment level for a while. Grigoire punishes weak Lightning defence, Duriel can make Poison resistance feel mandatory, and Beast in the Ice catches rushed builds with Cold damage. Set a simple goal before each session: get the enabling Unique, stack Greater Keys, or chase a better roll. When your stash is close to settled, cheap D4 Gold can help cover the gaps between runs, while your premium access stays reserved for the fights that actually move the build forward.
